Carl S. McGarvey was raised in north central Pennsylvania. After attending Asbury College and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, he pastored the Des Plaines Alliance Bible Church in suburban Chicago for five years. In 1985, the McGarveys were appointed as Christian and Missionary Alliance missionaries to the Philippines where they served in church planting and leadership development ministries. In 1991 Carl was asked to return to the headquarters of the C&MA in Colorado Springs, CO, where he served for 11 years as the missionary candidate director responsible for the preparation and selection of Alliance missionary personnel. In 2002 he became the director for candidate development for the Alliance in the US, focusing on the regionalization and reengineering of the movement's personnel development strategy. Pastor Carl became lead pastor of the Lancaster Alliance Church in September of 2008.
Carl is married to Patty since 1978. They are the parents of three children. Kristy lives in Wheaton, IL; Nathan lives with his wife, Emily, and sons Silas and August in Englewood, CO; and David and his wife Jennifer lives in Denver, CO.
Pastor Joe Burchill grew up in Coalport, PA. Following graduation from Toccoa Falls College, he pastored Alliances Churches in Corry and then Butler, PA. For sixteen years, Joe served the Western PA District of the C&MA as the Director of Christian Education and Administration. He traveled extensively as a teacher trainer, Curriculum developer, and consultant for the C&MA and other evangelical organizations. He has served on various county and state education boards as well as completed his master's degree in adult and community education at IUP. In 2002, the Burchills joined the C&MA National Office as Associate Director of Life Impact Ministries.
He joined the LAC Staff in August of 2009 as the Pastor for Discipleship Ministries. Joe and his wife, Joy, live in Landisville, love to travel, love good books and good food. They have two children. Beth is a corporate conference planner in Alexandria, VA. Nathan is a researcher in Chicago.
Bernt grew up in the country of Sweden as a missionary kid. While his career has centered around a passion for student development in higher education, he is also deeply committed to worship ministries and outreach in each of the contexts that he has served in. Bernt has led worship in a variety of settings, such as in church, college chapels, conferences and other special events. However, Bernt's primary joy comes from simply being part of a team of people that strive together to lead worship in meaningful ways. You will find he and his wife Ginger, are deeply committed to encouraging followers of Christ to seek a life that glorifies God first.
Bernt's college education began at LeTourneau University and he completed his B.A. from Washington Bible College. He holds an M.Div. and a Th.M. from Capital Bible Seminary and an Ed.D. from Azusa Pacific University. Bernt and Ginger have been best friends and close allies since the summer of 1995, and they have been married since 1996. The Lord has gifted them with four beautiful children, Joanna, Ashley, Kaeleigh, and JB (or Joseph). The family enjoys anything active, and chances are you will find them wrapped around some game somewhere. You can't miss them ... they are loud.
Jason R Snyder was born and raised in Lima, Ohio. After graduating from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with a bachelor's degree in youth ministry in 2003, Jason served as the Interim Youth Pastor at Cable Road Alliance Church. In 2004, just two weeks after getting married, Jason and his wife Wendy moved to Emporium, Pennsylvania where Jason served as the youth pastor for 6 years at Emporium Alliance Church. The Lord called the Snyders to serve at Lancaster Alliance Church in September of 2010.
Jason and Wendy have two sons named Jonan and Henry "Hank," and a daughter named Roslin. Jason's hobbies include Wendy, Jonan, Roslin, Hank, sports, sharing life with teenagers, beating teenagers in Monopoly, feeding ducks, and synchronized swimming. The Snyders live in Lancaster.
Kyle was born in York, PA but spent most of his childhood in Maine where his dad continues to serve as a pastor. After graduation from college in 2014, Kyle married his wife Monica, and in 2016 they welcomed a son into their family. Although his father and grandfather have served as pastors for many years, Kyle never expected that he would also serve as a pastor. In 2015, Kyle felt called by God to pursue a career as a military chaplain. This call led Kyle and Monica to seminary and into pastoral ministry in preparation for ministry in the military. Kyle and Monica both enjoy building relationships with college students, young adults, and young families and especially enjoy hosting people in their home. They share a passion for growing deeper in their faith and love for God and helping others to do the same. Kyle, Monica, and Jack enjoy living an active lifestyle and are thrilled to be living closer to family and friends in Lancaster County.
Kyle graduated from Lancaster Bible College in 2014 with a B.S. in Intercultural Studies and Biblical Studies. In 2019, Kyle graduated with an M.Div. from the seminary at Columbia International University. While in seminary, Kyle joined the Navy Reserve as a Chaplain Candidate which allows him to begin his military training while also gaining valuable pastoral ministry experience. He anticipates transitioning to life and ministry as an active duty Navy Chaplain after several years of pastoral ministry.
Liz was born and raised in Parkton, MD, along with her five siblings. In 2013, she began attending Lancaster Bible College, where she studied music pedagogy and piano. By the end of her sophomore year, Liz felt that the Lord was calling her to start pursuing her interest in children's ministry more seriously. She then switched her major to children and family ministry. She graduated in May 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Children's Ministry, Bible and theology, with a minor in music. In August, 2017, she married her best friend, Austin, who is finishing up his degree in business at LBC and working with a gap year program called OneLife. Besides playing with kids, Liz enjoys spending time with her family, laughing with Austin, being creative, cooking, and running.
Patty has attended LAC for over 25 years with her husband Joe. Patty and Joe have two daughters, Rebecca and Laurel. Patty is in her 18th year as Director of Preschool Ministries. If you walk down the hallway, you will see it is a family affair as Mr. Joe, Becca, and Laurel, when she's not in college are a huge part of the preschool ministry. Patty loves spending time with her family. In a rare moment of downtime, Patty likes scrapbooking, sewing, and reading.
Jean was born in Lancaster County, but moved with her family at age ten to Tioga County where her parents were church planters for the Mennonite church. She returned to Lancaster County to attend Lancaster Mennonite High School and upon graduation entered the RN Nursing Program at LGH. She retired from Ephrata Hospital. Jean has three children and four grandchildren. She and her husband, Vic, enjoy traveling, especially in the New England states. She enjoys anything outdoors and just being in the woods.
Frank was born and raised in Michigan. After graduation he joined the Air Force, attended language school in Indiana where he met his wife Sally. He later graduated from Purdue University in Indiana with a physics degree. It was there that he and Sally became the proud parents of three adopted children, Michael and twins Sarah and Susan. He began his work career as an engineer with IBM in semiconductor chip development, later working as a manufacturing manager in the automotive and medical device industries. After retirement Frank was a substitute teacher and golf course pro shop employee for ten years. With every job move, Frank and Sally always sought a Bible believing church. They were members (12 years) of the Fair Havens Alliance Church in Kokomo, IN. Frank has taught adult SS, led a youth group, directed a choir and was an active tenor in many choirs over the years. Frank and Sally moved to Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community in 2017 to enjoy their first two great-grandsons and extended family. Frank and Sally also enjoy walking, reading, time at the beach and fellowship with the church family and friends. They are delighted to find LAC and look forward to serving and growing in their faith to better serve the Savior, Jesus, who is the foundation of their life together.
Anita serves as an Associate for Worship & Outreach and has been on staff since September 2002. She is grateful for the opportunity to utilize her gifts while serving together with some amazing people. After receiving her Music Education degree in 1991 from Lancaster Bible College, she taught music for three years before transitioning into full-time mom, followed by a call to church ministry. Anita is married to Kelvin, whom she met at LAC and were married at the church in 1991 and continue to serve in various leadership roles. They are blessed with three adult children, Austin, Kiersten & Kaley whom they love spending time together. Anita enjoys discipling young women, watching soccer, scrapbooking, entertaining, vacationing and camping together with family and friends.
Beginning in January 2011, Renee began working part time as the Student Ministries Assistant, supporting the Youth Department with all the organizational behind the scene details. She originally started working with youth as an area of ministry in college but took a break for a season of "family time". She came back to her passion for youth ministry in 2004, in OH, and has served in youth ministry since 2008 at Lancaster Alliance. She absolutely LOVES working with middle school. She loves the chaos and the laughter and the brutal honesty of this age. There is so much potential. Renee has been married to her husband, Randy for 26 years. In addition to Katy, they have two grown children, Kaylyn and Kyle. Renee enjoys traveling and digital scrapbooking.
Kathy was born and raised in Lebanon, PA. She is married to Mark, her high school sweetheart. They are parents of two grown sons, Matthew and Andrew. Andrew lives in the Pittsburgh area with his wife, Shannon. Mark's job has taken them from Lancaster to Florida, to Mississippi, to Illinois, to Pittsburgh, and back to Lancaster. Kathy worked as an administrative assistant at various places over the years. Mark and Kathy have been attending LAC since moving back to Lancaster in 2013. She joined the LAC staff in May of 2015. Kathy is involved with LAC’s Great Commission Women and Page Turners. Her other interests include gardening, hiking, reading, and spending time with family.
Beginning in 1997, Mike Rankin has overseen the upkeep of the buildings and grounds here at LAC. In addition to his work at the church, he has served on a number of short-term missions trips, and enjoys woodworking and home remodeling in his spare time. Mike and his wife, Kay, have married twin daughters, Monette and Michelle.
Sue lives with her husband Kevin and children Luke, Kaitlyn, and Hannah in Lancaster. They moved from New England in 2008 and have been attending LAC ever since. Sue has worked as a bookkeeper for 19 years and loves it. In her spare time she likes to read, sew, spend time with her family, and play with their dog. Although Sue loves the Amish farmlands here, her favorite place to be is the beach!
Jen lives with her husband, Eric, and their two children. They moved from Maine in 2011 and have been attending LAC since coming to Pennsylvania. Jen graduated from Salve Regina University, Newport, RI with a BA degree, majoring in English. She loves spending time with her family and friends, reading, walking, and vacationing at the beach.
